You Can Go to College

If your family moves for farm work, this guide is for you. We will show you every step from high school to your first year on campus.

Why It Is Hard for Migrant Students to Get to College

You Lose Credits When You Move
Nobody Shows You How to Apply
You Feel Like You Do Not Belong

When your family moves to a new town, your new school might not count the classes you already took. That means you have to start over or take easier classes, even if you were doing well.

Most migrant students never had a teacher or counselor who understood their life. Without someone to help, you miss out on the right classes, test prep and college applications.

Being the only migrant student in an advanced class is lonely. A lot of students drop out of hard classes not because the work is too tough but because they feel alone.

How Avanza! Academy Helps

Credit Passport: Keep Your Classes

We track every class you take in a digital file that follows you when you move. Your new school will see exactly what you finished so you do not lose progress. A trained advisor checks your records at every new school to make sure you get placed in the right classes.

College Mentors: Someone Who Gets It

College students who grew up in migrant families work with you one-on-one. They help with homework, college essays, SAT prep and financial aid forms. They have been where you are and they made it to college.

College-Prep Hub: Your Home Base

A room on campus just for you. Come here to work on college applications, practice for tests, learn about scholarships and hang out with other students who are also planning for college. Seniors who got accepted help juniors apply. Juniors help sophomores plan.
